DEFECTED @ MINISTRY OF SOUND

 By Jack Buckley

For any lover of deep house, tech-house and the myriad of other genres that cling to the banner of ‘that sound’, this event is surely a must. Defected Records have been in the business for almost as long as most of you have been alive and by now they have definitely learnt how to throw a party! Renowned for the more thought-provoking and soulful side of house, you won’t be disappointed with the selection of music on offer, with sets from Dennis Ferrer, Noir, Shlomi Aber, Franky Rizardo, Andre Hommen and of course, the man behind the label, Simon Dunmore.  This truly impressive line-up comprises of world class DJs who can frequently be found spinning in the hottest clubs around, and they sure as hell know how to please a crowd.

So, what do you need to know? Defected Records has been entertaining the public since 1999 when it was founded and co-owned by Ministry of Sound. Impressive achievements include a No. 5 UK Chart single with Soulsearcher’s “Can’t get enough”, a No.1 Roger Sanchez’s “Another Chance” and Kings of Tomorrow’s track “Finally”, which has been voted as the 31st best dance track of the past decade. If you’re into house or have listened to the radio sometime in the past few months you will probably have heard MK’s remix of “Look Right Through” by Storm Queen; another highly acclaimed Defected release. Examples such as this show the talent being pushed forward by the label, and why they are considered to be one of the best house families out there at the minute.

With all these credentials to their name, it is no wonder that Defected can muster an impressive array of artists with which to dazzle and delight any budding audience! One producer and DJ of extreme talent is Dennis Ferrer who frequently delivers the perfect set by drawing on his incredibly diverse arsenal of records. Seemingly never content to do the same thing twice, he has a reputation for being energetic and contrasting in his productions. Joining him is Noir, described by many as more of a musician than a producer. Known for his soul searching productions and sets, he manages to strike that perfect balance between energy and emotion. These two house heavyweights are joined by Shlomi Aber, Franky Rizardo and Andre Hommen, all of whom have proven themselves in countless clubs all over the world. If all this wasn’t enough, Simon Dunmore (co-founder of Defected) returns to where it all started to complete an amazing line up of music for the evening.

You’d be hard pushed to find someone who hasn’t heard of Ministry of Sound. Undoubtedly one of the most renowned clubs in the world it also acts as a very influential dance music label. Veterans of bass music, the people at Ministry of Sound have done more than a few rounds of the block and they know how to make sure your night is as good as you want it to be. As with every club there are reports of people having a bad night, but this is more often than not down to the individual. Let’s face it, not everyone is going to like everything you do, but Ministry of Sound are definitely erring on the positive side of things, through their professionalism and dedication to providing a stage for some of the best dance acts around. If this wasn’t enough, they have gone all out on their entertainment systems; both lighting and speakers. When you step into the club, you cannot help but grin at the pulse of bass and the slap of the kick drum. You can feel the vibrations on every wall, but that’s not all; there’s a purr in your ears. A lot of you will have been in conditions where the noise is just too high pitched, too distorted, practically unlistenable; let me assure you, that does not happen here!  So, for a night of incredible music from world-famous artists, look no further. Tickets are perhaps a little steep at £25 plus £3 booking fee for non-members, but it is definitely worth the money.
